Troops from the armed wing of the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) have withdrawn from two frontline outposts in northwestern Shan State’s Mabein Township, near the Kachin State border, according to a report by the Kachin News Group on Wednesday. Citing KIO officials, the report said that the troops abandoned the Je U and Nam Hkan outposts, located east of the Shweli River, last week on the heels of peace talks with government officials in the Kachin State capital Myitkyina from Oct. 8-10. The move now gives government troops control of an area close to the Nam Lim Pa camp for internally displaced persons, said the head of the KIO’s IDP and Refugee Committee.
