Despite a recent round of ceasefire talks, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) reportedly clashed on Tuesday with the Burma Army at Mabein Township in northern Shan state, Kachin News reports. A 20-minute fire fight occurred after Burma Army Light Infantry Division No. 99 allegedly attacked KIA battalion 12 at Nam Hawm near Je U village, according to a KIA officer and a Kachin aid worker. Neither side suffered any casualties. The skirmish broke out just five days after the sides wrapped up a round of ceasefire talks in Kachin State capital Myitkyina, where they signed an agreement to work towards a ceasefire.
