Aeon, Asia’s largest retail company, is planning to open a representative office in Rangoon in a move to become the first major Japanese retailer to operate in Burma, reports China’s state-run Xinhua news agency. The company will open its new office in March as a first step toward launching a shopping mall in Rangoon by 2016, the report said. Aeon is Japan’s single-largest developer and operator of shopping malls, and has a retail network of more than 250 consolidated subsidiaries. It has retail outlets in China, Thailand and Malaysia, and last month opened a shopping mall in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
