The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said on Tuesday that it was ready to begin visits to Burma’s prisons after it reached an agreement with Burma’s government in November. “The ICRC will assess the welfare and living conditions of the inmates and work on various issues related to prison management, in particular the prison health system,” said Alain Aeschlimann, head of ICRC operations for Asia. “We intend to start detention visits as soon as possible,” he said in a statement.
