Troops from the Assam Rifles, an Indian paramilitary force, apprehended a member of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) insurgent group after he entered India’s Manipur State from Burma, reports the Imphal Free Press. The man, 28-year-old Aheibam Inao Singh, was later handed over to police in Imphal, the state capital, the report said. The KYKL, or Organization to Save the Revolutionary Movement in Manipur, is one of numerous insurgent groups operating in the area. Although relatively small, it is notorious for its violent vigilantism, aimed at “cleansing” Manipuri society of “immoral activities.” Its members are mostly ethnic Metei, the majority ethnic group in Manipur.
