ICG Calls for Immediate Lifting of Sanctions

12 April 2012

Saying that Burma is unlikely to backtrack on reforms, the International Crisis Group (ICG) has urged Western countries to lift sanctions on the country “without delay” to help the process. In a report released on Wednesday, the Brussels-based think tank said Burma had “turned away from five decades of authoritarianism and has embarked on a bold process of political, social and economic reform.” To support these reforms, it said, the West must “lift the sanctions on Myanmar without delay.”
