A group of Burmese women arrived in Hong Kong on Monday to start work as domestic servants, reports the South China Morning Post. The 19 women were the first batch of maids to be dispatched to Hong Kong by the Golden Mind Employment Agency, a Hong Kong-based company that has won Burmese government approval to recruit staff in Burma. According to the report, a total of 200 Burmese maids are expected to be sent to Hong Kong by the end of the year, with another thousand to follow next year. Hong Kong is facing a shortage of domestic servants amid reports of maids suffering abuse at the hands of their employers.
