A fresh clash between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and government troops is ongoing in the village of Kwan Lwin, about 40 miles from Kachin State’s Mansi Township, according to an aid worker in the area. The fighting reportedly broke out at around 10am local time on Thursday. The aid worker said it was not yet known whether either side had suffered casualties. Mansi was the scene of a government army offensive in late October, when Burma Army troops on Oct. 22 reportedly fired on civilians during a raid on the village of Mung Ding Pa, leaving nearly 2,000 civilians to seek refuge for days in a church there.
