5 August 2013
Burma’s Minister for Hotels and Tourism Htay Aung said foreigners should not stay in the private homes in Burma as their eating and sleeping manners are different from the Burmese, The Myanmar Times reports. The minister said foreign tourists must stay in hotels and guesthouses, adding that homestays should only be allowed in remote areas without tourist accommodations. “The manners of some foreigners are not appropriate for Myanmar people. But we have to choose homestay where there are no hotels or guest houses,” he said during a tourism industry meeting in Mandalay.
