A fire has destroyed nearly 40 temporary homes in a camp for displaced Rohingya Muslims in Arakan State’s Pauktaw Township early Thursday morning, Narinjara reports. “The fire originated from the barrack of one Haniba (house No. 87) at Sin Datmaw Muslim refugee camp at around 1 am. It gutted at least 39 buildings,” a police officer who visited the camp was quoted as saying. Narinjara said 34 barracks, each with eight living quarters and six kitchens, were destroyed along with two school buildings. Some 140,000 people, mostly Muslims, remain displaced after outburst of deadly violence between Rohingyas and Arakanese Buddhists in 2012.
