Farmers in Irrawaddy Division have threatened an “all townships demonstration” if their grievances over alleged land grabs are not addressed within three months, Mizzima reports. About 30 farmers said at a press conference this week that more than 4,000 of their fellow farmers would mobilize if a pledge to resolve the issue, made by a local official, is not fulfilled. The farmers say about 500 acres has been seized by the military and associated businesses since 1993.
