A delegation of Burmese exiles who concluded a month-and-a-half long visit to Burma on Sunday has urged the government to issue a blanket amnesty on dissidents. The Peace Delegation for Motherland, consisting mostly of former members of the All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF), said the country is in desperate need of skilled people. “Burma needs skills from all fields which exiles could easily provide,” said former ABSDF Chairman Htun Aung Gyaw in an interview with The Bangkok Post. “To encourage exiles to return, the government must issue an amnesty statement first,” he added.
