29 October 2012
The Rakhine Women’s Union (RWU), based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, has called on both sides engaged in recent clashes in Arakan State to immediately end the violence, according to a report by the Narinjara news agency. “The violence must be stopped, and not start again. We’ve issued this appeal to both communities to end the violence against each other and show consideration for each other’s plights,” said RWU Chairperson Daw Saw Mra Razar Lunn. Dozens of people have been killed and more than 20,000 people have been displaced by renewed attacks that started last week.
