Parliamentary Speaker Shwe Mann said on Friday that the cooperation of Burma President Thein Sein’s government would be “very important” to any constitutional amendments ahead of the country’s 2015 presidential election, according to the Bangkok Post. The current Constitution, drafted in 2008, has been widely criticized for several provisions, including one that bars opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi from running for the presidency. “The main thing is that it’s very important the administration is involved. Whenever a law is enacted, the involvement of the administrative body is very important,” Shwe Mann was quoted as saying at a press conference.
