The European Union is expected on Monday to join the chorus of voices within and outside of Burma pushing for constitutional change to allow Aung San Suu Kyi to run for the presidency in 2015, the Financial Times reports. Citing a draft of conclusions to a meeting of EU foreign ministers, FT said the regional grouping would insist that Burma’s Constitution “enable the conduct of credible, transparent and inclusive general and presidential elections in 2015, allowing all candidates to fairly contest the elections.” Suu Kyi is currently ineligible for the presidency due to a constitutional clause that bars anyone with a foreign spouse or children from running for the post.
