Political groups representing some of Burma’s largest ethnic minorities plan to gather next month for talks aimed at forming a united front in future negotiations with the Burmese government, according to a report by DVB. The announcement of plans to hold a “trust-building” conference in September comes after a meeting of ethnic politicians and representatives of various ethnic armed groups on Aug. 23 in Taunggyi, capital of Shan State. The meeting will also be attended by members of the 88 Generation Students group and other civil society organizations. The chief ministers for Shan, Karenni and Mon states will also be invited.
