Unruly football fans in Burma ripped up seats and stormed the field of a stadium that will host the opening ceremony of December’s Southeast Asian Games, AFP reported. The incident on Sunday at the Wunna Theikdi stadium in Naypyidaw took place during the new venue’s inaugural match and brought the game between Naypyidaw FC and Yangon United FC to an abrupt end. “Violence at the Wunna Theikdi stadium was mainly caused by some drunken fans,” Myanmar Football Federation spokesman Soe Moe was quoted as saying. He added that no one was seriously injured in the fighting.
