Residents are continuing to flee their homes due to fighting in northern Shan State, Kachinland news agency reports. Clashes broke out on Wednesday morning between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and Burmese army troops near Nam Tau village, Pangsai Township, the news agency reported, citing local aid workers who said residents in the township feared for their safety. The Burmese army has ramped up operations in southern Kachin State and northern Shan State over the past month, displacing an estimated 5,000 civilians. Since fighting began in 2011, about 100,000 people have fled from their homes.
