A group of more than 40 Buddhist monks forced the cancellation of a public discussion organized by the National League for Democracy after they threatened to disrupt the event because two of four scheduled speakers were Muslims, The Myanmar Times reports. The discussion in Rangoon was scheduled for Union Day on Wednesday, but organizers canceled it after the monks demanded that the Muslim leaders—one a lawyer and the other a political activist—be pulled from the speakers’ roster.
