Chin Groups Testify at EU Parliament
10 July 2013
Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO), the Chin National Party and the Chin National Front (CNF) representatives testified at an EU Parliament hearing on religious freedom on Tuesday to explain the situation of the Chin ethnic minority in western Burma. The CNF signed a ceasefire with Naypyidaw in January 2012, but the hearing was told that many challenges remain in Chin State. “[S]erious human rights abuses by the Burma Army continue with impunity, including sexual violence. We want to shine a light on the root causes, such as ethnic and religious discrimination, and the urgent need to deepen the reforms,” said CHRO program director Salai Za Uk Ling.
