Canada to Send Potash to Burma
18 May 2012
Canadian potash marketer Canpotex Ltd. said it is planning to make its first shipment to Burma since Ottawa lifted economic sanctions against the country late last month, according to The Canadian Press. CEO Steve Dechka said the company also plans to help train and support farmers in Burma to help them improve crop yields. “The relaxation of economic sanctions and export prohibitions following democratic reforms in Myanmar allows Canpotex to expand into this new market,” said Dechka. Potash is a mined material used in fertilizers.
