Cambodia is considering amending the law to prevent dual citizens from becoming prime minister, in a move that appears to be targeted at the country’s opposition leader, Sam Rainsy, a dual Cambodian and French citizen. The English-language Cambodia Daily reported Tuesday that Cambodian People’s Party lawmaker Cheam Yeap said the government wanted to change its citizenship law in order to prevent treason. Sam Rainsy told the newspaper he would be willing to give up his French citizenship, but compared the move to the Burmese military’s 2008 Constitution, which rules opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi out of the presidency due to her having foreign relatives.
