Controversy is brewing around the Myanmar Peace Center with a growing number of actors in Burma’s peace process calling on the center to disclose its funding, according to an Eleven Media report. Founded last year by presidential decree and placed under the authority of the President Office Minister Aung Min, the center received EU funding pledges of almost US $40 million. Independent observers and ethnic leaders engaged in peace talks with the government told Eleven Media the center should reveal its funding. “Financial matters should be transparent. If not, there may be allegations in the future that the donated funds are being misappropriated in the name of peace efforts,” said Shan State Army spokesman Moe Sai La.
