A Burmese man and a Thai woman were arrested near the Thai-Burmese border on Tuesday in possession of 10 kg of crystal methamphetamine and nine million baht (US$276,000) in cash, reports The Bangkok Post. The two were apprehended in Thailand’s Mae Sai District, opposite Tachilek in Shan State, and are believed to belong to a Burma-based drug gang led by the self-styled Lt-Col Yi Se, according to Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang, deputy chief of the Department of Special Investigation. In May of last year, a similar bust netted 1.66 million methamphetamine pills and 43 kg of crystal meth, with an estimated street value of more than $30 million.
