Burma’s Immigration Minister Khin Yi told reporters on Sunday that the government is planning to allow Burmese with foreign citizenship to return as “permanent residents.” Speaking in Naypyidaw at a conference of the ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party, Khin Yi said: “Burmese laws do not allow dual citizenship, but permanent residency (PR) will be introduced in about three month.” Hla Maung Shwe, a member of the National Economic and Social Advisory Council, told The Irrawaddy that the government is examining the PR systems of India, Singapore, Vietnam and China.
