Foreign tenders will be accepted for the “megacity” project planned for northern Rangoon, according to AAP. “These tenders will be for the construction of buildings such as hotels, shopping malls and housing projects in Mayangone Township within three years,” the Australian news outlet quoted an anonymous city official as saying. The project is part of the Greater Rangoon Strategic Development Plan, which aims to help Rangoon, with a current population of about 5 million, grow to 10 million people by 2040. The plan includes building new roads, railways and an airport, and the development of green zones and housing projects.
