Burma is planning to bring in the New Year with a large-scale countdown event for the first time ever, The Bangkok Post reports. Around 50,000 people are expected to attend “Myanmar Countdown 2013” at the 6.5 hectare Myoma Ground in central Rangoon, the newspaper said, adding that the event will be organized by Thailand’s largest event organizer, Index Creative Village, through its Burmese subsidiary. The countdown, which will include appearances by Burmese celebrities, will cost more than US $1 million to stage, and will have Burmese military personnel providing security.
