Rights groups in Burma documented 106 human rights violations between July and December 2013, including land confiscation, extra-judicial killings and rapes, according to a new report. The report released Tuesday by Thailand-based umbrella organization ND-Burma, brought together reporting from across Burma by 10 rights groups. During the six month period, there 35 reports of confiscation or destruction of property, 20 reports of torture, three reports of rape and eight reported killings. A statement quoted ND-Burma’s Lway Poe Ngel, saying that despite talk of reform from Naypyidaw, “the military government is actively targeting civilians in ethnic areas as part of its counter-insurgency tactic.”
