Burma has responded to UN human rights envoy Tomas Ojea Quintana, who on Friday presented a report to the UN General Assembly that included criticism for the government’s handling of inter-communal violence in Arakan State. A response from Burma’s permanent representative at the UN, Kyaw Tin, said parts of the report were “one-sided or do not reflect the true situation.” “Even highly-commended positive developments in the country were dwarfed by heaps of negative remarks,” it said. “There is a wise quotation. ‘The optimist sees the donut, the pessimist sees the hole.’ We regret that the way [Quintana] presented is like blaming a donut for its hole.”
