Burma’s military Commander-in-Chief Vice-Sen Gen Min Aung Hlaing received Russian Defense Minister Gen Sergei Shoigu in the capital Naypyidaw on Monday, state-run newspaper The New Light of Myanmar reports. The Defense Minister was given a Guard of Honor and the commanders of Burma’s army, navy and air force were also present during the meeting. It was the second visit by a Russian Defense Minister and coincides with the 65th anniversary of Burma-Russian diplomatic ties. Min Aung Hlaing told the Russian Defense Minister that he “could contribute to regional peace and stability,” while Shoigu said Russia and Burma should cooperate “not only in defense sector but also in economic, social and cultural sectors.”
