Latvia and Estonia are the latest countries to establish ambassadorial-level relations with Burma, according to a report by China’s Xinhua news agency. The foreign ministers of the two Baltic countries signed joint communiques with their Burmese counterpart Wunna Maung Lwin on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York last week to announce the move. Burma has formal diplomatic relations with 109 countries, including three others added to the list earlier this year—Malawi, Bhutan and Luxembourg. The country has 30 embassies abroad, and is host to 28.
