Burma Attends Asian Coast Guard Meeting in New Delhi
3 October 2012
The chiefs of coast guard agencies from Burma and 16 other Asian countries gathered in New Delhi on Wednesday for talks on combating piracy and enhancing maritime security. The annual gathering, known as the Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies Meet, was first held in Tokyo in 2004 as a way to enhance cooperation in efforts to deal with the growing problem of piracy. The scope of discussions has since been expanded to include law enforcement, maritime security, disaster prevention and relief and capacity building.
