Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Burma Army Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing and pledged to increase ties between the two countries, according to Chinese state-owned media. A report in the English-language China Daily quoted Xi, speaking Wednesday, saying China “is willing to work with Myanmar to command the general direction of bilateral relations, and to carry out the agreed consensus to promote pragmatic cooperation.” Snr-Gen Mun Aung Hlaing, who also met with senior Chinese military officials during a visit to China, said, “Myanmar’s military is ready to make unremitting efforts to deepen cooperation with China,” according to the report.
