Beijing to Invite Suu Kyi to China: Ambassador
27 January 2014
It is “just a matter of time” before Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi receives an invitation to China, said the country’s ambassador to Burma, Yang Houlan. According to a report by the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post, Yang said the invitation to Suu Kyi would come at a time convenient to both sides, although there were no firm plans. Suu Kyi has expressed an interest in visiting China, and several senior members of her National League for Democracy have already traveled to the country. “We are particularly interested in listening to their views over ways and means to further promote our co-operation under new circumstances,” Yang said.
