The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has launched an appeal to urge the Burmese government to prosecute police accused of torturing a man to death in Rangoon in July. The group says that 19-year-old Myo Myint Swe was arrested in connection with the June 28 murder of flower seller Ma Poe Poe Mon, also 19, in Mayangone Township. On July 8, Myo Myint Swe’s mother, who was also taken into custody along with a cousin named Ko Soe Lin, was informed of her son’s death. The family of Myo Myint Swe say his body showed signs of severe torture.
