Religious authorities in Burma have ordered around 50 monks in northern Shan State to leave their monasteries, according to a report by the Democratic Voice of Burma. The reason for the eviction is that the monasteries are located in an army zone and are not officially recognized as religious buildings, the report said. The monks received the order late last month and were told to leave by the end of April. The abbots of the monasteries were later summoned and told to sign a consent form agreeing to move out by the prescribed deadline.
