About 2,000 Rohingya Muslims have been languishing in 24 overcrowded refugee centers in Thailand for the past six months, according to documents obtained by Thai newspaper The Bangkok Post. Thailand had agreed to host the refugees for half a year, while international agencies promised to find a way to resettle them in third countries. However, the refugees’ future remains unclear as few have been resettled so far, while the Thai government struggles to house the refugees and lacks a clear plan for handling the situation. The Bangkok Post said Thailand is considering improving the refugee holding centers or building new facilities in remote areas.
