More than 1,600 people were killed in road accidents in Burma in just four months, according to police figures quoted by Eleven Media. An official in the traffic police department reportedly told Eleven that the number of traffic accidents was rising, and that from the start of 2014 to the end of April, there were 5,325 traffic accidents, including 2,007 motorcycle accidents. “Road accidents killed more and more people across the country. To reduce it, the traffic police can’t handle it alone. Everyone using roads should follow the traffic rules and regulations,” said Police Colonel Kyaw Htwe was quoted saying.
