Myanmar’s detained State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has urged people to be more careful amid the spread of the new COVID-19 strain that is more deadly and transmissible.

During her trial on Tuesday, she told her lawyers that people should be more careful and take precautions seriously.

“She urged people to comply with COVID-19 preventative restrictions as the threat of the virus becomes more serious,” one of her lawyers told the media.

Myanmar has been facing rapid transmissions of coronavirus since late May.

On Tuesday, the military-controlled authorities reported 3,602 COVID-19 cases and 52 deaths, the highest number for a single day since the February coup.

So far Myanmar has reported 171,696 COVID-19 cases and 3,513 fatalities.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s warning is her second call for caution.

Late last month, she urged citizens to fear COVID-19 as cases rise.

Her lawyer said Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is in good health and she has received both COVID-19 vaccinations.
