A National League for Democracy parliamentarian, three policemen taking part in civil disobedience movement and a villager were killed by an explosion in a Pyay Township village in Bago Region on Monday evening.
According to residents and social organizations in Pyay, an explosion occurred at a garden in Ganbilar village in the township where Bago regional parliamentarian U Thet Win Hlaing and the striking police officers were taking shelter.
The garden’s owner was also killed.
“The explosion was reportedly caused by a parcel bomb,” a Pyay resident, who was close to the lawmaker, told The Irrawaddy.
The five bodies were sent to the Pyay General Hospital and another policeman, who was seriously injured in the explosion, is being treated at the hospital.
In Pyay, four people were reportedly killed by junta forces during crackdowns and raids.
Civilians in Pyay have been conducting guerrilla protests in defiance of military rule.
Pyay-based politicians, activists, journalists and striking government staff are in hiding as the security forces hunt them in the town.
