Myanmar’s detained leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi thanked all those who celebrated her 76th birthday and wished them good health, according to her lawyer.
Her supporters at home and abroad on Saturday prayed for her good health and speedy release from the regime’s detention.
Apart from those hearty birthday wishes, Myanmar’s favorite social media, Facebook, has been flooded with pictures of people wearing or holding flowers to show solidarity with their leader, who is known for wearing flowers. One user writes: “Come you Back, Mom…Revolutionary flowers are now in bloom.”
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been detained by the regime since it seized power from her government on Feb. 1, and charged in seven legal cases.
Shortly before the latest session in her trial in Naypyitaw on Monday, her legal team informed her about the Myanmar people’s nationwide celebration of her birthday.
“She thanks the people for her birthday celebration. She also wishes good health to the people,” said Daw Min Min Soe, one of her lawyers.
The lawyer said Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was in good health.
On Monday, plaintiffs and plaintiffs’ witnesses testified in cases against Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and a case against President U Win Myint. Cases involving alleged violations of COVID-19 restrictions against the State Counselor and President were heard, and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s case under the Telecommunications and Export/Import laws were heard.
The defense lawyers also cross-examined the plaintiffs and plaintiffs’ witnesses, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s legal team said.
