Myanmar’s regime has continued offensives and airstrikes across the country while holding a so-called peace forum in Naypyitaw.
The junta’s three-day 2025 Peace Forum in Naypyitaw includes representatives from signatories of the 2015 Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement and the United Wa State Army, National Democratic Alliance Army, Shan State Progress Party, political parties that registered for the junta’s proposed election and civil society organizations. Representatives from China, India, Thailand and Russia attended the opening ceremony on Wednesday.
On Wednesday night, the regime bombed Mogoke, a ruby town held by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in northern Mandalay Region, destroying five houses and a monastery canteen and injuring two civilians, according to residents.
On Wednesday, junta troops in Kangyi village shelled Nawnghkio town under TNLA control in northern Shan State, destroying houses.
The TNLA liberated Nawnghkio with allies, including Mandalay People’s Defense Force, in July last year.
The regime has launched a major offensive to retake the town and is fighting with the TNLA and its allies in several villages outside Nawnghkio.
The TNLA said the junta was relying on its air force, drone strikes and shelling during the operation.
On Tuesday evening, a junta fighter dropped two 500lb bombs on TNLA-controlled Kyaukme town, next to Nawnghkio, killing four people and injuring 14 others, the TNLA said.
A jet also bombed Mawchi town, which is held by the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force, in Hpasawng Township, Karenni (Kayah) State on Wednesday. The bombs hit tin and tungsten mines, killing at least seven miners and injuring at least 20 others.
The airstrikes followed clashes with Karenni resistance groups in Hpasawng town.
