Myanmar’s regime airstrikes have targeted resistance-held areas, killing many civilians shortly after Malaysia, ASEAN’s chair, called for a ceasefire.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim urged junta boss Min Aung Hlaing to respect his post-earthquake ceasefire in talks in Bangkok on Thursday.
A regime fighter jet from Meiktila airbase dropped a 300lb bomb on Lake Kya village in Thabeikkyin Township, Mandalay Region, on Friday morning, killing 13 civilians and injuring three others, according to Pyin Oo Lwin District People’s Defense Force (PDF).
In the afternoon, another airstrike targeted Yay Htwat village in the township but reportedly only damaged electricity poles.
The village was attacked again on Saturday afternoon, killing 13 more civilians, including children, and injuring around 20 others, Thabeikkyin PDF stated. The group’s photos show several victims, including children and a decapitated body.
The airstrike blew up the village petrol station, burning houses.

The PDF said a fighter jet from Meiktila airbase dropped a 500lb bomb on Kyi Tauk Pauk village school in PDF-controlled Singu Township, Mandalay Region, on Friday afternoon.
The airstrike injured four civilians and destroyed school buildings.
On Saturday morning, a warplane destroyed Min Saw village monastery in Belin Township under the control of the Karen National Union in Mon State, killing two civilians, according to the Karen Information Center.
Junta airstrikes and shelling targeted Yay Twin Kone village in resistance-held Nyaunglebin Township, Bago Region, on Friday morning. A villager was killed.
Rakhine media reported that a junta warplane bombed Arakan Army-held Kyauktaw town in Rakhine State on Saturday morning, killing a civilian and injuring over 20 people.
The regime declared a ceasefire until April 22 after the March 28 earthquake killed over 3,700 people. When it declared the truce, the junta warned it would attack resistance training centers, considering activities to be preparation for future attacks.
Since declaring a quake truce on April 2, the junta has carried out over 120 artillery attacks and airstrikes, mostly on civilian targets, across 12 out of 15 regions and states, killing at least 81 people and injuring over 120 others.
