Myanmar junta’s Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued flood alerts for 18 townships in Kachin State and Sagaing, Magwe and Mandalay regions.
The Irrawaddy, Chindwin and Myitnge rivers are above their danger levels, causing floods and casualties.
The Chindwin is above its danger level in Hkamti, Homalin, Mawleik, Kalewa, Mingin, Kani and Monywa towns in Sagaing Region.
Around 75 percent of Hkamti, including the central market, has been submerged since July 2.
A resident said: “The water receded a little. The town and nearby villages are flooded. Low-lying houses and the market are completely submerged. The financial losses are huge.”
At least one child has died in the flood. The meteorology department said on Wednesday that water would remain above the danger level in Hkamti for the next 24 hours.

The Irrawaddy is above its danger level in Bhamo and Shwegu towns in Kachin State, Katha and Sagaing towns in Sagaing Region, Thabeikkyin, Mandalay and Nyaung-U towns in Mandalay Region and Pakokku in Magwe Region.
A Sagaing town resident said: “The water rose rapidly. In previous floods, the water took at least three days to reach my home but this time it came in one day.”

Charities have evacuated over 1,000 flood victims to pagodas and monasteries.
The Irrawaddy was more than 38cm above its danger level in Mandalay on Wednesday and the junta’s Fire Services Department in the city said it is monitoring the situation.
Tada-U, Myingyan and Nganzun in Mandalay Region have reported floods and the regime has issued a flood alert in Amarapura.

The Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Ministry of the civilian National Unity Government on Monday warned of flooding on the Rakhine coast and in the Ayeyarwady delta, Mon State and Tanintharyi Region.
Floods hit Myitkyina, Waingmaw, Putao and Sumprabum towns in Kachin State last week. Landslides reportedly killed seven people in Panwa and floods killed five in Myitkyina.
