Five political prisoners, including two resistance fighters, escaped from Pakokku Prison in Magwe Region on Saturday morning.
The five were on trial for opposing Myanmar’s regime when they escaped. They created an electrical fault and climbed the prison walls at night, according to media reports.
Resistance groups rescued them and sent to a liberated area, according to the Young Force (UG) armed organization.
“They escaped by themselves. They were injured after climbing walls and barbed wire fences. They said they fell off a wall because of electric shocks,” a UG member told The Irrawaddy.
Pakokku Township People’s Defense Force, UG, Pakokku Rangers and other resistance groups were involved in the escape.
The junta authorities interrogated prison staff following the escape.
