JOOX, the popular music streaming app in Myanmar, will host its second annual “JOOX World Music Day 2020” under the theme The Sound of Happiness on June 21. It will be broadcast exclusively live on the app.
The online music festival will start at 1pm and it will bring 18 domestic and international artists.
“At JOOX, we are always seeking new ways to provide music fans with ways to enjoy the music they love. As there will also be a surprise program during the event, we’re inviting everyone to transcend physical distance and connect through the power of music, and we encourage viewers to support the pandemic recovery efforts by giving gifts,” said John Zhang, the country manager for JOOX.
The event will include a gifting system. Audiences can send gifts to artists, with each gift equal to 20 kyats which will be donated to the United Nations’ children’s charity Unicef, to be used for international COVID-19 relief efforts.
At the music festival, the artists will perform a wide range of genres, including pop, RnB, hip hop and rock.
The Sound of Happiness will feature eight artists from Myanmar, including Wai La, Big Bag, Phyu Phyu Kyaw Thein, Shwe Htoo, Eaint Chit, Phyoe Pyae Sone, May and Chan Myae Maung Cho.
“During COVID-19, I entertained fans online but this is my first time performing at a big music concert with many other artists,” singer Phyoe Pyae Sone told The Irrawaddy.
He will perform four tracks from his home with two other musicians.
“We arranged it in an unplugged style. So we will perform with home-quality sound but we will do our best,” he added.
The international artists include Ruel, Alexander 23, Circa Waves, Mxmtoon, Conor Matthews, Gracie Abrams, Griff, JC Stewart and Maximillian.
Moroccan-Dutch DJ R3hab has also recently been added to the lineup.
World Music Day has been held annually on June 21 since it began in France in 1982. In previous years, it has been celebrated in over 1,000 cities with numerous free concerts.
“The worldwide impact of COVID-19 has been massive and there are so many people out there who need help. We at JOOX are happy to do our part while providing music fans in Myanmar with the excitement and uplift of live entertainment that they have been missing,” Zhang said.
Although Myanmar’s government is easing some restrictions by allowing some shops, schools, restaurants and bars to reopen, public events and nonessential gatherings are still banned.
In April, Myanmar’s popular rapper Sai Sai Kham Leng hosted his birthday party as an online concert with his friends and a charity program. The Sound of Happiness by JOOX is the second major online concert since coronavirus restrictions were imposed.
Music lovers have the chance to experience the joy of music from the safety of their homes.
