RANGOON — The first Rangoon Business Support Services Fair, an event which will link small business owners with service providers to discuss business problems, will take place next week with the collaboration of Germany.
The event will be held on May 24 at the Co-operative Business Centre in Rangoon’s Bahan Township. It is organized by Myanmar Young Entrepreneurs Association (MYEA), in partnership with the Ministry of Industry’s SME Center and GIZ, a German government-owned aid agency.
“We are doing this fair mainly to link small businessmen with providers of services because they don’t know where they can get solutions for their problems, how can they find technical specialists and where they can get business training,” Christopher Prior, senior entrepreneurship advisor from GIZ, told a press conference Wednesday.
He said that the opening up of business sectors in Burma that were closed before, and the regional integration expected with the Asean Economic Community in 2015, will mean both opportunities and increased competition. Therefore, Prior said, events such as next week’s are important for small businesses that want to keep up.
“We want this fair to be used as a resource for those who want to do a business. We would like to involve small business owners and managers to get the information that they want through support service agencies at this fair,” said Thin Thin Set, joint secretary of MYEA.
A press release distributed on Wednesday stated that 20 service providers will be able to demonstrate their services, as well as discussing business problems with potential clients and short seminars on topics relevant for small business owners.
