Burma’s government confirmed on Thursday that the contract of the Italian-Thai Development Co. Ltd (ITD) to develop the Dawei Special Economic Zone has been terminated. Other international firms are invited to submit a tender for developing the SEZ project and ITD can, technically, submit another tender, government mouthpiece The New Light of Myanmar reported. An international consulting firm will carry out a Due Diligence Assessment of ITD’s handling of the SEZ project. ITD has been blamed for not attracting enough investment for the implementation of the US $8-billion Burma-Thai project, which seen little progress since it began in 2008.
