Burmese Vice President Sai Mauk Kham has called for a roadmap for Arakan State “that is acceptable to both communities and everyone concerned,” reports The New Light of Myanmar, referring to tensions between Buddhists and Muslims in the state and international criticism of the government’s handling of the situation there. Speaking at a meeting of the Central Committee for Implementation of Peace and Stability and Development in Rakhine (Arakan) in Naypyidaw on Monday, Sai Mauk Kham said that communal in the state had “turned a positive view from the international community negative” and reminded state officials that the issue is “not a matter for Rakhine State alone.”
