UN Rights Envoy to Visit Burma Next Week

The UN’s special envoy on human rights in Burma, Tomas Ojea Quintana, said he will visit the country next week to assess the impact of the conflict in Kachin State and other rights-related issues. “I will be lending my voice to calls for a ceasefire and progress in addressing minority issues,” Quintana said in a statement, referring to ongoing efforts to push the government and Kachin rebels to end a war that began more than a year and a half ago. Quintana, who will arrive in Burma on Feb. 11 for a five-day visit, has traveled to the country several times since it began a series of reforms nearly two years ago.

One Response to UN Rights Envoy to Visit Burma Next Week

  1. Well, what you (T.O. Quintana) got to address is: “A screw up constitution by a screw up mindset” – that is not a constitution – of the people, by the people, for the people…..

“A BUDDHIST PERCEPTION OF A FLAWED CONSTITUTION”

A devout Buddhist has a natural belief that a Buddhist perception of events could enlighten us on the issue of “Why It So Happens”, based on the theory of “Cause and Effect”. Hence:

    “AWAIZA- PYIT-SA-YAR-THIN-HKAR-YAR”
(IN ENGLISH: THROUGH ‘IGNORANCE’, WE DO THINGS RIGHT OR WRONG, NO MATTER WHAT)
‘IGNORANCE’ IN BUDDHISM INTERPRETED AS: LAWBA=GREED, DAWSA (DAWTHA)=ANGST, MOHA=STUPIDITY

We could draw three instances to reflect this “Universal Truth”, namely:

    1. Dawsa (Dawtha) & Moha:

Al Qaeda to commit 9/11, in which over three thousand innocent people were killed in New York City.

    2. Lawba & Moha:

Gen Ne Win to committed 1974 election to cement his power base and as a consequence, fourteen years later, over three thousand civilians were killed in a national uprising in 1988.

    3. Lawba & Moha:
Now, Gen Than Shwe is committing 2010 election, as part of Seven Point Road Map to cement his power base. So, we can only hope to God it might not turn the country into a ‘Killing Field’ similar to Pol Pot’s Cambodia. Furthermore, he will use force (the Army) to achieve his goals.
